Adventures Through Roatan, Honduras (#2)
After snorkeling, we headed back to the Cannibal Cafe where we were delighted by some thirst-quenching lemonade and iced tea. For the meal, we were given mouth-watering quesadillas filled with cheese, onions, and bell peppers, and I kid you not, they were the best quesadillas I’ve ever eaten.
Once our hearty meal was over, it was the perfect time to get back out into the water and kayak. The tour took us for a 20 minute ride to a bar on another spot on the island. Kayaking on the ocean was enjoyable, and I loved when a slight wave would come under the kayak and rock it up and down. It was incredibly relaxing to kayak under the sunlight in beautiful, clear water, and the experience was truly amazing.

While at the bar area, we were shown some banana and plantain trees as well as mango trees. We were also taught about the various home remedies used in Hondurian culture that help them avoid as many doctor visits as possible. About 45 years ago, Honduras didn’t have many doctors (if not any) in Roatan, so the people had to come up with different ways to treat a sick or injured person. Of course now there are many more doctors on the island, and the remedies aren’t the only form of medicine for the islanders.

The bar was alongside a restaurant with outdoor tables overlooking the water. It was a magnificent view, and I noticed an adorable dog sleeping by one of the tables. The dog belonged to the owner and was one of the friendliest dogs I’ve ever met- petting her was one of the highlights of my day.

It was unfortunately time to go back to the Cannibal Cafe and unload all of our kayaking gear. We kayaked back the same way we came: across the ocean. (I find myself funny sometimes.)

Before driving back to the ship, we had some time to shop around. I ended up buying a bracelet with a blue stone in it that I absolutely loved, and I’m glad I’ll always have a piece of Roatan with me. In one of the shops, there was the cutest cat ever, and I was sitting and petting her and having the time of my life. (I love animals in case you couldn’t tell!)

Alas, we drove back to the ship and called it a day. I had an awesome mint chocolate mousse dessert that was the perfect way to end this adventurous day. Next up: Harvest Caye, Belize!
